A very rare prototype model of the first Apple iPhone is up for auction on eBay, quickly hitting bits in the five figures and drawing media interest. While prototype Apple gear is seen now and then on auction websites, this model is definitely different. According to the listing and other materials, it is a 2006-era prototype model. It runs a very early version of Apple's iOS (or iPhone OS then) to test the prototype hardware. In addition to the special software, each radio signal bands are etched into the device's rear housing. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and each of the original iPhone's four supported GSM bands are accounted for.The seller has noted the differences between this rare prototype and the mass produced first generation iPhone, which was released in 2007:Rare Apple engineer sticker which says Ver 1.1.1Running multiple testing software, including OS X and Earthbound (not the normal OS 1)Used by Apple for testing to make the original iPhoneCirca 2006. First-gen iPhone prototype hits eBay auction
An eBay listing for a prototype of the original Apple TV has appeared on the auction site, giving interested users nearly a month to snap up the collectible item with a "Buy It Now" price of $350.
There have been fake prototypes to have hit ebay in the past, but this looks like the real deal and is a genuine slice of technology history. We'll be keeping an eye, if not our paltry funds, on this one.
Prototype Apple gear is a hot commodity, but would you guess that a prototype iPhone would be selling for over a hundred grand? Me neither, but an eBay auction for a prototype iPhone 4 has hit $100,800 and continues to climb north into the stratosphere.
What is claimed to be a genuine prototype of the original iPhone has sold via Internet auction site eBay for a cool $1,499. Details on how exactly the seller managed to get their hands on the device are sketchy to say the least, but with the listing claiming the unit to be one of only five in existence, the Reddit user who made the purchase will certainly be the envy of many hardcore iPhone fanboys.
As mentioned, the modified Apple phone with 64GB of storage and with a USB Type-C port is currently listed on eBay. The first offer for the handset started at $3,500 (roughly Rs. 2,60,200) on Tuesday. The prototype device had already managed to get a $100,100 (roughly Rs. 7,447,000) bid at the time of writing. With around one week left on the auction until November 11, the price is can go even higher.
Before bidding in the auction, it is important to note that the eBay listing says that the prototype shouldn't be used as a daily phone. Users are prohibited from wiping, restoring, or updating the phone. Also opening the phone is not allowed. Lastly, the project is open-sourced and interested people can find it on GitHub.
Another rare piece is an official press kit for the original Deus Ex from 2000. While the game is not included in the box, you get the press pack shipping box from Ion Storm Dallas, a collection of pre-release reviews for the game from various computer magazines in 2000, an advertising flyer, and a prototype of the Deus Ex box that never saw the light of day. Bidding started at $10 and is now at $51.99, with a 2:30 p.m. ET Monday close date on the auction.
I seriously hope no one bids on this since this auction has already been called out by thousands of hardcore zelda fans since the seller put false/incorrect information about the prototype. I find it funny that the seller thinks that no one would notice his false auction but clearly the seller has no idea how HUGE and amazing the zelda fan base is in this world.
One such device is the ultra-compact Nokia Ion Mini prototype, which is currently listed for auction on eBay. The device has a distinctive design with plastic and aluminium build. Even when placed next to the iPhone 5S from 2014, the Nokia Ion Mini seems like a puny toy.
